Simulation of air distribution in data center based on thermal environment evaluation indexes

Summarizes and compares the thermal environment evaluation indexes in data center and their values. With a data center in Nanjing, simulates the thermal environment and air distribution under four different working conditions, using CFD simulation software specialized for data center. Calculates the values of the indexes, and analyses their applicability. The results show that the surrounding temperature of cabinet in the middle area of data center room is relatively high, while lower at both of the side areas. The supply air volume from the floor grille in the middle or later area in each column is steady and uniform, and the outlet air temperature is lower. The supply air volume from floor grille close to the indoor unit is small, the surrounding temperature is unstable. The important cabinet should be placed in the middle or later area in each column. Evaluates the whole room thermal environment using SHI and RHI indexes, and analyses cold quantity utilization and thermal safety of equipment in different areas of each column using β and ηr indexes.
